Some questions which parents often ask

Glenfall Pre-school floor toys

WHAT CLOTHES SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?
Preferably something old! Please ensure that sleeves can be rolled up. We provide aprons for wet or messy play. We also have for sale pre-school Sweatshirts and T-shirts which also help keep the mess at bay, help fundraise and make the children feel part of the group!

CAN MY CHILD BRING A TOY?
Yes, but it will be put away safely in our special box at the beginning of the morning and handed out when the child leaves. This is to ensure that a favourite toy doesn’t get lost or broken.

WHAT IF (S)HE NEEDS THE TOILET?

If requested children are taken to the toilet by a fully checked and approved member of staff. We also try to remind the children periodically to use the toilet. We use either the toilet in the cloakroom or the school toilets. We encourage children to look after their own personal hygiene. We accept children in nappies/pull-ups.

COULD MY CHILD ESCAPE?
We have a ratio of 1:6 so the children are always well supervised. The gates to our fenced area are kept well bolted. We believe these measures ensure the safety of your child.

WHAT IF I CAN’T COLLECT MY CHILD?
Please let us know at the beginning of the morning if possible, who will be picking him/her up if you (or your regular substitute) are unable to come.

WHAT SNACKS DO YOU PROVIDE?
We offer milk or water (not squash) and either a plain, savoury biscuit, fruit, toast, crackers etc. Sometimes the children bake their own snack, make sandwiches or cut up the fruit. If your child has any allergies be sure that we know. Children have free access to healthy snacks from our super snackbar.

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS?
We ask you to send in photos, one for each year of your child’s life and a special snack (enough for 20 children and 4 hungry staff). This may be some biscuits or cakes you have made with your child. We look at the photos and talk about your child’s development, sing “Happy Birthday” and your child gets to choose a hand-made Birthday card (by children) If you would like to buy a book/ puzzle/ game to celebrate your child’s Birthday speak to the play leader for ideas.

WHAT DO I DO ON ROTA DUTY?
As this is totally voluntary, we hope you will come in and have fun. Please be sure to read the timetable for the morning, what to do in case of fire or medical emergency! Not that we have ever had to put these into practice but it is important that you are aware.

HOW CAN I KEEP IN TOUCH WITH WHAT IS GOING ON?
You will receive a newsletter once a week and an extra one is posted on the notice board. You will also at the beginning of each half term receive a topic sheet, which will show you the activities under the Early learning Goals that we expect to cover. Also, on a separate notice board are courses run by PATA, newsletters or educational updates.
